Discernment – The Clear Seeing of Ourselves, Others & Everything As It Is

~ April 4, 2024

Very often when we hear the term discernment in spiritual context and even in religious circles, we like to think of it as some magical gift of seeing what is hidden. And while seeing the hidden can indeed be one characteristic of discernment, there is a much deeper, multifaceted truth about discernment. And it’s this;

When we have truly met our own light and darkness within. Soberly, over and over again. Seen with clarity both our assets and liabilities. When we have accepted those parts of ourselves that we used to push away in shame and fear. When we have met in humility our own humanness at a depth that requires great courage and honestly. Only then is true discernment even possible.

When we have embraced our own glory and talents with gratitude. Hugged our own loneliness and deepest fears with compassion. Smiled softly at our beauty and simply shrugged acceptingly at our flaws. Admitted our selfish tendencies and ulterior motives. Only then can we truly see ourselves, others and things as they are.

Dropping the clouded filter of distorted perception, it is by grace that we lay down the judgmental, calculating mind which can never truly see. Vision has now taken its rightful place. This is true discernment.
