Our Own Heart’s Natural Rhythm of Contentment

~ March 21, 2024

As we settle more and more into our own heart’s natural rhythm of contentment it begins to hum a tune that is irresistible to other like minded souls.

When our lives are dominated by the continual satisfaction of unbridled, selfish desires this only leads to more desire. This is the surest way to suffering and discontentment.

To desire a thing is not wrong in itself. But to think that the fulfillment of that desire will add to us in some fundamental way and make us more complete and whole is the error.

We forget that the source of all that is and will ever be is deep within us. It has always been within. Even the greatest loves of your life, your most pinnacle moments and life achievements were all experienced within you.

However we erroneously attribute the source of that bliss, love and contentment to some external thing, a person, a happening, an event. Yet the truth is really that the outer can only aid and assist in opening us up to the inner experience. What has always been there perhaps as yet undiscovered. A contented, wholesome heart.

It is the desire itself that hides our natural state of contentment. We become addicted to the chase. More of this. More of that. We’ve become slaves of a mind that can’t and never will be content for very long.

Taking refuge, rest and solace in the heart of contentment is the only lasting source of true happiness.
