Overcoming The Pull Back Into Our Own Darkness
~ March 1, 2024
As we grow ever more aware of this wakefulness which alone we are, there will be seasons in which the pull back into our own darkness and wounds of unconsciousness feels immense.
If we have done the required inner-work of conscious, clear seeing, with healing compassion and love for ourselves, we should always gently yet persistently resist this temptation to focus on negatives.
There exists a strange attraction and primordial pull back into our old familiar pain and patterns of darkness. After all despair was once such a familiar, loyal friend for many of us. As when all alone despair was the only one still at our side.
Similar to being caught in an ocean’s rip-current, one should not waste precious energy by fighting fiercely to swim directly to one’s own shore of refuge and peace. But we should move parallel out of the strong currents of pull of unconsciousness stroke by stroke.
We practice mindfully and committedly with inner resolve those proven practices of caring for and loving ourselves and others which have brought us peace, hope, love and true refuge in the past. Through this perseverance of practice, very soon we will find our feet firmly planted once again on the shores of our own heart.
